Birth and Adolescence; |
"Alone for a while, I've been searching through the dark, for traces of the love you left inside my lonely heart." |
A young Othardian farm girl, whose name is undocumented, was captured by Garlean soldiers and kept in their captivity, in her cell, she was used for their pleasure, tortured and abused for months on end. Her parents had been beaten and murdered in front of her eyes, and she dreamed desperately of freedom. One night, a group of Imperial soldiers took advantage of her, and she fell pregnant, although she was only a young girl of 15 summers. |
During a prisoner exchange months later, the pregnant girl managed to escape captivity. She fled as fast as she could, running for what felt like days from the soldiers in pursuit of her, she arrived to the shore and climbed aboard a simple fisherman's boat in desperation. She paddled the small boat as far as she could, sailing for days with no food or water, determined to be free and keep her unborn child safe. The soldiers gave up the chase, knowing the fate that would await her. |
The seas were harsh and tumultuous, especially for such a small boat not designed for the open waters. Exhausted and frail, aboard the small fisherman's boat, she fell into a premature labour against the waves. Panicked, weak and struggling in pain, she delivered two children; a son and a daughter, as well as her last breath. |
"If I should leave this lonely world behind, your voice will still remember our melody." |
For two days, the children wailed, cradled in the stiffening arm's of their mother, as the boat sailed adrift, but the seas had calmed. An East Aldernard Trading Company vessel, bound from Kugane to Limsa Lominsa, discovered the stranded boat and the crying children and took them onboard. They took their cargo and the children to the safety of the La Noscea shores. The sailors named the children "Perish" and "Mercy", to honour the death of their mother and her sacrifice made to deliver them from harm. |
"Our paths, they did cross, though I cannot say just why, we met, we laughed, we held on fast, then we said goodbye." |
Upon their arrival to the ports of Limsa Lominsa, the children were trusted into the care of an elderly Hyuran couple, Freya and Cole Baudelaire, who had retired to a small village in La Noscea. The children were raised at their farmstead in the countryside of Cedarwood, unaware of their origins until they turned 16 summers. |
"In your dearest memories, do you remember loving me? Was it fate that brought us close and now leaves me behind?" |
Perish, driven by a need for justice and to avenge his birth-mother, would make a promise to himself, that he would not rest until he had exacted revenge, and began to study the arts of arcanima at the Arcanist's Guild in Limsa Lominsa. This is where he learned of his Garlean heritage, and his lesser ability to wield magicks. Nonetheless, he persevered and was able to graduate. He would go forth, becoming an adventurer, before joining "The Scions of the Seventh Dawn", after receiving Hydaelyn's Blessing. |
"I've laid my memories and dreams upon those wings, leave them now and see what tomorrow brings." |
Mercy, struggling to comprehend the origin of their birth, refrained from taking up arms and disagreed with her brother. She believed that no good come from it, as standing against the Garlean Empire was seemingly a losing battle. The two fought endlessly, their beliefs and opinions conflicting back and forth. In the end, she gave her blessing for Perish to follow the path he wishes, but that she would remain behind at their home to care for their aging adoptive parents. She would later take up the art of conjury, lending her aid to the victims of the Garlean Empire across Eorzea. |
"Now I know we'll carry on, melodies of life, come circle round and grow deep in our hearts. As long as we remember." |
The canon events of the story of Final Fantasy XIV then take place, from A Realm Reborn, to the current story of Dawntrail. |
During the events of Endwalker, on the Scions expedition to the frozen climes of a war torn Garlemald, a young solider, spared from tempering, begged the Eorzean Alliance for his death. His name was Sunny Ruparlia. Perish grew close to the boy, of a similar age to himself, taking him into his care, and they became inseparable, sharing their stories. Their relationship blossomed, and the two began dating several months later. Mercy disapproves of their relationship, given her families traumatic ties to the Garleans and her relationship continues to be strained with her brother. Though, Mercy now serves as a conjurer for The Order of The Twin Adder. Perish and Sunny now live a quiet life together in their cottage, making their home in The Lavender Beds of Gridania. Perish is a Fisher and Culinarian, although he still dabbles in the art of combat. Sunny has traded in his days of fighting and instead is involved in the arts of Blacksmithing and Mining. |
Freya and Cole passed peacefully in Mercy's care. |
